What is the 99 Nights in the Forest Oil Drill used for, and how do you get it for your base? Another important item in 99 Nights in the Forest is Bandages! Find out how to get them in our How to Get Bandages walkthrough.
99 Nights in the Forest Oil Drill
A great source of fuel.
How to Get the Oil Drill
To obtain the Oil Drill for your base, you need to craft it. You do not unlock the crafting option until your Crafting Bench is upgraded to Tier 4. To do this, you must collect 30 Wooden Logs, 20 Bolts, and 2 Cultist Gems to upgrade your Crafting Bench from Tier 3 to Tier 4.
From here, you can then craft the Oil Drill. The crafting recipe for this machine is:
- 25 Wooden Logs
- 35 Bolts
- 1 Cultist Gem
At this point, you might already have these items spare in your inventory, but at least the Bolts and Wooden Logs are easy enough to get! To obtain Cultist Gems, you must defeat Cultist enemies, whether they wield crossbows or melee weapons.
Why Do You Need an Oil Drill?
The Oil Drill is the best machinery to use when it comes to collecting fuel. This is due to the flammable liquid that you can source when using the Oil Drill! But why is fuel so important in 99 Nights in the Forest?
At the start of every game, you need to chop down trees for wood, and then put the logs on the campfire. These logs are a source of fuel, but they don’t last too long, as you may have noticed. After exploring the starting area of the forest for just a couple of minutes, the campfire starts to fizzle out quickly.
With the Oil Drill, you have a constant source of fuel, without having to worry about using up all of your spare logs. Fuel keeps the fire burning, which keeps you safe at your base, especially during the nighttime. If your campfire goes out once the sun goes down, you are more susceptible to attacks, and the Deer monster has an easier time finding you.
