Oblivion Remastered Spell Crafting

In Oblivion, you can craft your very own spells. Anything you can think of, you can probably make it, even if it seems silly and useless. It’s all part of the fun! It allows you to customise your gameplay experience and experiment with a bunch of abilities.

How Spell Crafting Works

First, head to The Arcane University in the Imperial City to attempt to join the Mages’ Guild. But you need to prove yourself! Complete the quests granted by the NPCs as you work through to get your letters of recommendation.

After collecting all of the letters, you are welcomed into the Mage’s Guild, where you unlock access to the Praxographical Center. This is where the Altar of Spellmaking resides. Note that you need regular spells and cash for spell crafting to work – scrolls do not apply to this. To get spells, you can obtain them naturally throughout the game or purchase them from in-game vendors.

Crafting a Spell

Now that you have access to the Altar of Spellmaking, you can start to select the Effects for your custom spell. These Effects are the spells you’ve already obtained. When selecting the spells, you can alter the Magnitude, Duration, and Area before confirming. Pay attention to the Range, too!

Best Custom Spells

To make the best custom spells, you need to focus on the effect at hand. Unless you’re trying to make a random spell, you should utilise effects that complement each other. However, it’s important to remember that the spell that applies weakness to Frost whilst also dealing Frost DMG does not increase the DMG dealt, even though it sounds like it would.

Plus, if you’ve collected a spell that allows you to summon an ally, that’s always a good option to add to your custom spells. The extra help is always appreciated!

Depending on what type of mage you are, or if you just want some extra spells under your belt, you can add effects that hone in on a specific element, such as fire, shock, and frost. However, if you want to create a strong restoration spell, you can do that too.
