Where does the Rune Slayer Runic Whale spawn, and how do you beat it? It’s part of the Rune Slayer questline that unlocks the Tundra, which you also need a Rune Key for!

Rune Slayer Runic Whale

The Runic Whale is a boss fight in Rune Slayer, but it also plays a big part in unlocking access to the Tundra. You can battle against this boss multiple times, especially if you’re trying to farm the materials it drops.

Runic Whale Location

The Runic Whale tends to spawn in the middle of the ocean, close to the Tundra Gate. It appears once every hour on the dot! If you’ve already picked up the Rune Key questline, you’ll know where the Soren NPC is. From his location, look ahead to see the Tundra Gate – the Runic Whale spawns in that large area.

If you don’t know where to find Soren, you need to head forward from the docks at the beach to find the island he stands on. He’s to the right, past a stone ledge, standing behind a tree.

How to Beat the Runic Whale

You cannot fight the Runic Whale whilst on an aquatic mount, so you must swim around. It tends to attack mostly at close range, though it does have a specific move where it shoots out a long-range beam.

You must defeat it within 15 minutes, otherwise it despawns, and you’ll have to wait until it respawns on the hour.

Why Do You Need to Fight the Runic Whale?

Firstly, to unlock the Tundra location, you need to defeat the Runic Whale in the Rune Key questline. Plus, the Runic Whale drops materials that are required for one of the steps in the same questline, particularly the 3 Whale Tails and 3 Whale Scales.

Both of these items are common drops, so they’re not too difficult to get. You just need to defeat the Runic Whale!
