Can You Mutate Pets More Than Once in Grow a Garden?

The short answer is no. After mutating a pet, inserting it back into the machine will override its existing mutation after the process concludes. This means grinding for a specific mutation is incredibly difficult and time-consuming since pets must first reach level 50+ before they qualify for mutations.

How Pet Mutations Work

At level 50+, you can insert pets into the strange vial next to the Pet Egg Vendor on the opposite side of the map to the Seed and Selling Merchants. It costs an additional 500 million shekels to activate, and takes 1 hour to process a mutation.

When you retrieve your pet, it will have a new appearance based on its mutation, paired with an ability to enhance it, and the pet will return to level 1.

This means if you get an undesirable mutation, you’d need to level the pet back up to 50, pay another 500 million, and wait another hour just to reroll it.

Which Mutations Should You Keep?

Since pets, unlike crops, cannot stack mutations, it makes the hunt for the perfect one much harder. Of all available mutations, I recommend settling for one of the following:

  • Ironskin – 35-45% chance to recover stolen fruit.
    • If you play in public servers, this mutation is great for protecting your goods.
  • Rainbow – Huge increase to a pet’s passive (+20% more efficient)
    • Achieving this on an overpowered pet with a long cooldown wait will massively increase the efficiency of your garden.
  • Ascended – Applies the Dawnbound mutation to a random fruit every 300-360 minutes.
