There’s a huge cast of NPCs within the game, some beneficial, whilst others are to be avoided. This 99 Nights in the Forest Characters guide is your handbook to learning about the forest residents and what to do when you encounter them.

99 Nights in the Forest Characters

Entities

First up, let’s meet the main antagonists of 99 Nights in the Forest.

  • The Deer
    • The primary antagonist of the story. This entity visits your camp on the first night, and prowls every night after. It chases players who leave the safety of their camp at night, but can be slowed down with the use of torches.
  • The Owl
    • This neutral entity has a 1 in 2 chance to spawn on the third night, depending on whether the Volcanic Biome or Snow Biome is present. If the Volcanic Biome is present, the Ram replaces the Owl.
    • The Owl is neutral, since it doesn’t automatically target and attack players outside at night. Instead, a pair of eyes will appear on the screen that slowly fill in red each time you move. If they fill up, the Owl will then give chase.
  • The Ram
    • This hostile entity has a 1 in 2 chance to spawn on the third night, depending on whether the Volcanic Biome or Snow Biome is present. If the Snow Biome is present, the Owl replaces the Ram.

Children

The children are the main plot-relevant characters who each hide somewhere on the vast map, sobbing quietly as they await rescue. Each child is protected by collared animals. To unlock their gate and free the child, you must defeat all the hostile collared animals on guard. The final animal defeated will drop the key alongside standard drops.

  • Dino Kid
    • Guarded by 5 Wolves, this child’s den is the closest to the players’ campfire. You’ll easily find them after upgrading your campfire to Level 3.
  • Kraken Kid
    • The Kraken Kid is protected by a fleet of 4 Alpha Wolves, which are a little tougher than normal Wolves. This child is a little further out, requiring your Campfire to be Level 4.
  • Squid Kid
    • Next, the Squid Kid. His hideaway can be found after upgrading your Campfire to Level 5. This child is protected by a small group of 2 Brown Bears.
  • Koala Kid
    • Finally, the Koala Kid. The final child is guarded by 6 Brown Bears, and his hideout can only be found if you upgrade your Campfire to Level 6 (Final stage).

Each child you rescue will increase your day counter by +1. Additionally, all children have a chest either inside their rescue room or in the hallway before opening their door.

It seems you’ve stumbled upon my bio! I’m Sho, your local weeb. Off the clock I am typically watching anime, reading manga, or doing art. I think it’s safe to say that all my unpaid thoughts revolve around anime… That said, watch One Piece! (Or don’t, I’m just a biography.)
