The Tanuki seems to be one of the new meta pets from the Zen Egg, but many players are asking, can the Tanuki steal crops in Grow a Garden, or are your Grow a Garden fruits safe?

Can The Tanuki Steal Crops in Grow a Garden?

In short, no. At the moment, there is no evidence to prove that the Tanuki can steal crops and fruit in Grow a Garden. Rumour as it that when the Tanuki was first added, it used to have the ability to steal, but developers changed this.

Despite a few players claiming it can, there is no solid evidence that it does. So your crops are safe! Unless we find video evidence or the developers make an official announcement, it’s safe to say that the Tanuki doesn’t steal. I have a Tanuki in my garden, and I’ve never seen it steal either.

What Does The Tanuki Do?

So, what does this pet do? This is the official description of the Tanuki:

“Occasionally causes mischief by doing random actions in the player’s garden.”

This is relatively broad, to say the least. However, some of the things it does have been confirmed.

  • Give a random fruit the Chilled Mutation
  • Give a random fruit the Choc Mutation
  • Give a random fruit the Moonlit Mutation
  • Advances another active pet’s cooldown by a minute
  • Hands you Sheckles (anything between 300 and 1,000)
  • Gives itself EXP and ages
