In our Dead Rails Mining guide, we go over how to find the mines, which items you can obtain by exploring, and how to unlock all pathways and rooms.
Have you been to the Dead Rails mines yet? Sadly, none of the Dead Rails Classes start a round with dynamite, which you’ll have to find yourself!
Dead Rails Mining
Learn how to locate the mines, what you can find inside them, and how to open blocked entrances.
How to Access the Mines in Dead Rails
To get to the mines, you must find the Church of Sterling as you go along. Behind this building, you can see a cave – this is the mine! You can destroy the planks that cover the entrance to the mines with dynamite, which you can purchase from General Stores for $25 (in-game coins), or you can randomly find them strewn around in towns. There’s also a chance for them to spawn within Outlaw Camps and inside buildings that have been abandoned.
After placing the dynamite (try to only use 1), you must use a torch to light it on fire. Your train may already have a torch, but if not, you can head to the Sheriff’s Office and walk into the jail cell to find one. After igniting the dynamite, it then explodes after a total of 5 seconds, so make sure you get out of the way quickly!
The Mines
When you first enter the mines, there are 2 pathways ahead of you.
To the Left of the Pathways
Walking to the left of the pathways takes to you a room with more planks blocking the way. Use another stick of dynamite to gain access to this area! Inside the room, there is a counter that has a variety of items atop, such as the Jade Tablet, 2 Silver Bars, 2 Gold Bars, a Strange Mask, and a Vase.
The most important items here are the Strange Mask and the Jade Tablet, with the latter being required to open the Tomb location, and the former being a powerful weapon.
Room Nearby to the Jade Tablet/Strange Mask Room
To find this room, you simply need to search around the area of the room that houses the Jade Tablet and the Strange Mask on the counter. To easily spot this second area, you should look for 3 barrels that block the entrance. Luckily, you do not need dynamite to break them, and you can move them out of the way yourself.
This room includes a door that you can only unlock with Jade Tablets (you should already have at least 1 by this point). A total of 4 Jade Tablets open the door, which leads you to the tomb, housing an abundance of valuable items. These items include 7 Bonds, 2 Silver Bars, the Jade Sword, and 3 Gold Bars.
Jade Tablet Locations
- 1 in the room to the left of the initial pathways in the Mines
- 1 in the tomb on the button that unveils the Jade Sword
- 1 in the Sterling Church building
- 1 randomly spawns within the Mines
Important Items in the Mines
As well as the 4 Jade Tablets, there are 2 other valuable items to collect.
Jade Sword
Found in the room blocked by barrels, the Jade Sword is a melee weapon that has a 50% chance to reanimate defeated enemies. These enemies will then attack alongside you during combat!
Strange Mask
The Strange Mask, like the Jade Sword, can reanimate defeated enemies. However, instead of it being a 50% chance, it is a guarantee!
