Our Dig Appraisal guide goes over what it is and how to appraise your items. Appraising applies a mutation to the item, which alters the selling value. Earning in-game coins is one of the main goals in Dig!

All about the appraisal feature, how to do it, and what the purpose is.
How to Appraise in Dig (Appraiser Location)
To appraise any item in Dig, you need to visit the Appraiser NPC in Fox Town. You can find the Appraiser NPC inside the Bank building, standing behind the counter. Aside from appraising, you can also purchase the Charm Chisel from them with 25K in-game coins.
Walk up to the NPC whilst holding the item you wish to appraise. After spending 300 in-game coins, the item is then returned to you with a random modifier that is either better or worse than the previous one. This is great for when you have items that have no modifiers already, as you don’t really lose out on anything!
However, many players like to appraise items that have a weak modifier on them in the hopes that they will gain a better one. This is because modifiers affect the selling value of an item!
Why Should You Appraise?
So, let’s say you have an item that has a pretty decent selling value thanks to a specific modifier. But, you’re feeling risky and you want to try and get a ‘better’ modifier.
You spend your in-game coins to appraise said item, but it ends up getting a modifier that is worse than what it already had, thus reducing the selling value.
It could go the other way, though, with the item getting a modifier that increases the selling value exponentially. Using the appraisal feature grants you a chance at getting any of the naturally occurring modifiers. This does not include modifiers that you can get from shovels.
