The Blood Moon event must be active for it to spawn, and the boss itself appears every 4 hours. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the game, as there is an announcement that lets you know 60 seconds before it spawns, giving you a chance to make your way to the Cinder Cavern location, and again once it appears. Once you enter the Cinder Cavern, you can easily spot the Dire Wolf boss, as it spawns at the bottom of the slope, and there is a tag on screen to let you know exactly where it is.
