Fisch Exotic Fish Guide
With the release of Exotics, Vertigo expanded with one new catch alongside an Exotic fish found in the new area, The Depths. Unusually, of the two, the Vertigo find isn’t a fish. It isn’t alive at all. However, it’s a necessary find if you want to reach The Depths. When inside Vertigo, a door framed with eerie red crystals sits undisturbed and locked.
To unlock it, you’ll need a 100% completion on your Vertigo Bestiary which includes finding the new Exotic, The Depths Key. Found inside Vertigo and Strange Whirlpools, the player will gain a rainbow exclamation mark above their head when The Depths Key catches on their line. Luckily, it isn’t too hard to secure, but the key does apply a -10% progress speed during the catch minigame.
Since The Depths Key isn’t living, it has no true preferences except for daytime and Magnet bait. But, this can be easily adjusted with the Sundial Totem obtained from Sunstone Island for 2,000C$. On use, the Totem pops and changes the day/night cycle.
The Depths Exotic
When inside The Depths, you’ll want to hang around and complete as much of the Bestiary as possible. This is because the key is a one-time use, and reloading the game will relock the door leading into The Depths, so you’ll need to fish up an additional key to return.
Now, onto the only living (kind-of) Exotic rarity fish. Found within The Depths, the Ancient Depth Serpent only appears in random spawn abundances during the Absolute Darkness event. Its spawn radius glows but is easier to see if a Fish Radar is enabled. During this small timed window where the catch is possible, players should ensure they have the Ancient Depth Serpents preferences noted!
- Bait: Truffle Worm
- Time: Night
- Weather: Any/ No preference
- Season: Any/No preference
I also recommend getting a rod with a decent KG allowance since the Serpent can weigh in at 2,500 KG. I have King’s Rod bias since it has inf KG, a massive control bar and a decent enough luck boost to help uncover the Ancient Depth Serpent.
Megalodons
Found rarely around Ancient Isles, these massive ancient beasts pit players against one another in a race against time to be the first and only to obtain one. In total, there are three Megalodon variants including:
- Megalodon
- Bait: Shark Head
- Obtainment: 5% spawn chance every new morning cycle.
- Ancient Megalodon
- Bait: Shark Head
- Obtainment: Twice as rare as the standard variant during the Megalodon Hunt.
- Phantom Megalodon

- Obtainment: Must be an Eclipse event during the weekend.
