The Mulberry County Secret Tape
We really like Mulberry County. So when we discovered there was an extra bit of content in the game then we went after it immediately, eager to bridge the gap while we wait for Volume 2. Here’s what we learned from the Mulberry County secret tape.
How To Access The Mulberry County Secret Tape
Getting access to the secret tape is pretty easy, once you know how. First, you head to the main menu, where you select the tapes. You’ll see a set of three tapes next to an old CRT TV. If you look closely, you’ll see a tape half hidden in shadow on top of the TV. If you move the cursor over it, the screen on the TV will turn red and show an unsettling face. Select the tape to play it, simple as that.
What’s On The Tape?

If you play the tape, you’ll be greeted with a grey, static-y screen, and text running along the bottom. It appears to be an account, possibly a final one, from a scientist who has been cornered by the Fallen Angels. Most of it is told via the subtitles, which read as follows.
“First Fletcher Tape
My name is Alan Fletcher.
I have a PhD in biology.
I have made a terrible mistake.
At the time of this recording they are coming.
The Fallen Angels.
I have seen them.
They are everywhere.
[Distant Screams]
I beg to whoever may see this!
DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE A M-
[End of tape]”
The tape also includes one image of a Fallen Angel, which we’ve included above, which appears to be trying to move through a cramped corridor. We’ve added this above. You’re welcome.
Once you’ve played the tape, it disappears from the top of the TV. (If you close the game and reload, it will be back though, so don’t worry, you get more that one shot.
What Does This Tape Tell Us?
As you might have noticed from the Fallen Angels feature, we love dissecting the Mulberry County deep lore, and while this is mostly a straightforward story, there are a few things that stand out that we should point out in case you missed them.
- Dr Fletcher makes a big thing of his role as a scientist. This seems a little odd if the message was just referring to his own predicament. You can’t really imagine a person listing off their qualifications as a lawyer while monsters rip their door down.
- He’s talking a lot about a mistake he’s made, he’s not making the nature of the mistake very clear, though.
- The implication from the tape is that Fallen Angels are all over the place. Far more than the one Henry encounters in Volume 1. It seems to imply Henry might’ve gotten off lightly.
- The Fallen Angels might be killing a lot more people while the recording is underway, which could imply the situation in Mulberry County is far worse than we expected.
- The title ‘First Fletcher Tape’ implies that there are more Fletcher tapes, despite the abrupt ending. So… that seems to imply that either Fletcher survived to make more tapes. Or.. he didn’t survive but still made more tapes… which is a lot worse.
Hope this was useful! If you’re interested, and haven’t read it, we also have a Mulberry County Volume 1 walkthrough.
