How to Get the Fisch Maelstrom Rod

In short, to get the Maelstrom rod, you need to catch a Cryoshock Serpent before completing a parkour obby to reach the rod itself. However, the method of catching this fish is a little complicated.

Upon reaching the Maelstrom rod, you must spend 3,250,000 in-game coins to purchase it.

How to Catch a Cryoshock Serpent

Firstly, you need to obtain Essence of Starfrost and Essence of Winter from Northstar Village. The second step is collecting the Everfrost Key from Santa’s Fischmas questline.

Essence of Starfrost and Essence of Winter

For Essence of Starfrost, you must wait for the Frost Moon event. This weather event can occur naturally or can be activated manually with a Frost Moon Totem, located in an igloo at Glacial Ridge, costing 5K Bells (Fischmas currency).

During this event, Essence of Starfrost has a 1 in 150 chance of dropping as you fish. You can get Essence of Winter naturally by fishing at Northstar Village, with a 1 in 1,000 chance of it dropping.

Everfrost Key

The Everfrost Key is a reward you obtain when completing the final quest in Santa’s questline. This quest requires you to catch a Northstar Whale, which you can get by fishing at Northstar Village.

Lever Locations

The next step is to find 3 levers across Northstar Village. You must wait until the Frost Moon event activates before doing so!

    • On top of a wall to the side of the island
  • Location 2:
    • Behind a greenhouse
  • Location 3:
    • Close to the Gingerbread House
Unlocking the Cryoshock Cellar

After finding the levers, you can place the Essence of Starfrost and the Essence of Winter onto the Cryoshock Serpent Statue before using the Everfrost Key to unlock the gate.

Catching the Cryoshock Serpent

As the Cryoshock Serpent is more of a boss than an actual catch, you need to be careful. Catch it before it reaches you; otherwise, you’ll be sent back to spawn.

After catching the Cryoshock Serpent, you must complete the parkour obby to reach the location of the Maelstrom fishing rod.
