What music they make!

How to Become a Vampire

In short, you need to come into contact with a vampire. This can be any vampire, but you must find them first. The two main hotspots that I’ve found are the Barren Cave and the Gutted Mine. You can find plenty of vampires in both of these locations. You can find them in various other places at night or in the shadows!

As they attack you, you eventually contract the Porphyric Hemophilia disease. At this point, you are not a vampire just yet. If you do not cure it by the end of 3 days, you will then turn into a vampire, but only the first stage of vampirism. There are 4 stages in total, with each unlocking more abilities and skills.

Curing Porphyric Hemophilia

If you want to cure the disease, you can do so by:

  • Consuming a Potion of Cure Disease
  • Eat Mandrake Root
  • Eat Shepherd’s Pie
  • Cast a spell that cures diseases
  • Pray at a shrine that can cure diseases

How to Cure Vampirism

If you’re a vampire, but you no longer want to be one, there’s a way to cure it.

  1. First, speak to Raminus Polus in the Arcane University, who tells you about the Count of Skingrad
  2. Head to the castle in Skingrad and find the Count, named Janus Hassildor – he tells you to speak with Melisande
  3. Make your way to Drakelowe, which is to the East of the Imperial City, to find Melisande
  4. She tells you that she can help to cure your vampirism, but she wants a few things in return first
  5. Next, you need to collect 5 Empty Grand Soul Gems, which you can find in higher-level locations, but you can also purchase them from enchantment/apothecary vendors

Obtaining the Vampire Cure Potion Ingredients

  1. Bring the 5 Empty Grand Soul Gems to Melisande and obtain a Vampire Cure potion recipe in return. This recipe requires 5 Leaves of Nightshade, 6 Cloves of Garlic, and 2 Shoots of Bloodgrass, the ashes of a powerful vampire, and the blood of an Argonian
  2. To get enough Bloodgrass, head to the Mystic Emporium in the Imperial City – this shop also sells Cloves of Garlic and Nightshade, but you’ll have to get the rest from somewhere else
  3. For the rest of the garlic, make your way to the Imperial City Prison and into the Guard’s Quarters to find the cloves on the shelf
  4. Visit the Fat Ramp Camp (it’s to the West of Skingrad) to find Nightshades
  5. For the Blood of the Argonian, you can attack a random Argonian, but you must do this with the provided enchanted dagger (I recommend going to the Veyond Cave)
  6. To obtain the ashes of a powerful vampire, luckily, this location is marked on your map. The game tells you which vampire you must kill, which is Hindaril. After defeating him, loot his body to pick up the Ashes of Hindaril
  7. Make your way back to Melisande and provide her with the ingredients
  8. Wait 24 hours for her to create the potion and talk to her again to receive it

Completing the Vampirism Cure quest rewards you with 5K gold, so there’s another bonus for doing it!
