If you’ve ever lost your real-life keys, you know how much of an inconvenience and panic it is. And, somehow, Storage Hunters Open World has captured this anxiety by bestowing important items onto players without sale locks.

So, if you’re curious about what happens if you sell the Key in Storage Hunters Open World, or have sold yours and want to know if theres a fix, look no further than this guide!

I braved selling my own, and I come with resolutions to this rather niche query. Let’s get into it.

What Happens If You Sell The KEY in Storage Hunters Open World?

If you sell the Key, you’ll have to wait 12 real-world hours for it to respawn in the same location that you found it.

Fortunately, that’s it! Unless you want to jump ahead to the Key Location, or keep reading on to learn more about Lost Items.

What is the Key?

The Key is part of the Lost Items collection in Storage Hunters Open World, meaning it is found around the map rather than bought through a storage container. With a measly base value of $0.38, there isn’t much merit in selling it, even by accident.

However, it’s used to find the Scythe, which is another Lost Item, and is currently the only Lost Item with functionality. To use it, take the Key to the Back Alley (near the Farmyard and Car Shop). Find the Sal NPC, and interact with the lock on the container behind him with the key in hand to unlock the garage door and find the Scythe.

Lost Items

In total, you’ll eventually find 29 Lost Items around the map. They’re standalone from the item pool and are trackable via the interactive map.

Aside from the Key, all other Lost Items don’t contribute to quests and therefore can only be collected once. You CAN sell Lost Items, but given they’re limited to 1 per account (aside from the Key), it’s up to you on whether you want to keep or sell them. Personally, I think their limitation makes them more valuable as keepsakes.

Key Location

To find it, press M to open your map and set a waypoint to the Farmyard. Drive here, and then locate the apple orchard at the back of the Farm, next to the road-clad bridge that leads towards the Lucky Beach. Underneath the road on the sand between the first concrete pillar and the shore, you’ll find the Key.

Note: To collect it, you need your vehicle close enough to load it. Then, take it back to your shop and unload it to put it in your inventory.
